There are a large numbers of centres and units at UKZN. Some of these are teaching centres, some are involved in community engagement, some are research centres and some have a mixed mandate. The policy relating to units and centres in the UKZN Research Policy are for the establishment of UKZN Research Units and Centres. While the policy indicates the framework within which the University Research Committee is meant to assess the merit of these applications it does not contain specific criteria for their establishment.
