How long will it take to have my contract signed?
It takes about 7 to 14 working days
I am doing a project that would take a month to complete, do I still need a contract?
Yes, the University requires a contract for every externally funded project.
I am only getting R10, 000 can I sign the contract?
No, only authorized officials as per the University Council resolution can sign contracts and other legal documents
Does the Research Office submit the documents to the funder or will I have to do it myself?

Legal Services will send the Academic the fully executed agreement which must then be sent to the funder.

I want to start work but the contract has not been signed?
Work on any project cannot be started until the contract has been signed.
How do I open a cost centre for a research project?
Once the contract has been signed, the Principal Investigator should fill in an application for a new cost centre through your college Finance Officer.
Do I have to include overhead fees?
Yes, In terms of the university policy every project classified as a research contract should include indirect cost. The current rate the University levies is a composite figure of 17.5% (15% overheads and 2.5% finance admin fee). Where donor institutions have a policy in place on indirect costs (eg NIH 8%, UNICEF 7% for example, we subscribe to that institutions policy). Also note that contracts soley for bursaries and scholarships are exempt.
