Dr Terence Olckers
Dr Terry Olckers is an applied entomologist with a particular interest in the biological control of invasive alien plants. Following the completion of his PhD at Rhodes University in 1989, he joined the Weeds Research Division of the ARC- Plant Protection Research Institute. During his 16 years with this institute, he worked on several projects that targeted a range of invasive plant species with insect natural enemies. In 2004, he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Pietermaritzburg), where, together with his team of postgraduate students, he has continued his work on invasive alien plants. He continues to collaborate with national organizations like the ARC-PPRI and the Working for Water Programme (Department of Environment Affairs) as well as international organizations like Landcare Research (New Zealand) and the CSIRO (Australia). He has published some 59 scientific papers and peer-reviewed scholarly outputs in the field of weed biological control, with H-Scores of 16 (Google) and 11 (ISI).
