Research Development Equipment |
The purpose of the Research Development
Equipment fund is to provide funding for research equipment which
exceeds R50 000, in order to support the research endeavours of the
University through infrastructural development and provision of
equipment, as well as facilitate research capacity development for
emerging researchers and postgraduate students. The program seeks to: -
support established researchers in acquiring equipment to further their research endeavours; -
support
emerging Faculty members and those with a high post-graduate component
for the purpose of developing research capacity among academically young

University Fellows |
The University Council may, on the recommendation of the Fellowships
Selection and Awards Committee, award annually approximately three
Fellowships of the University of KwaZulu-Natal for distinguished
academic achievement.
The Research Office shall make a call for nominations of Fellows,
whereupon requirements and closing dates shall be stipulated. A list of
Fellows of the University is published in the University Calendar and on

Honorary Research Fellows |
The rank of Honorary Research Associate (HRA) is conferred on recently
retired academic staff with an ongoing record of research productivity.
Recommendations for conferment are made by the Head of School, through
the Dean of Faculty, for consideration by the University Research

Book Prize |
The University Book Prize is awarded to an author in order to recognize
the publication of a book that brings credit to the University. This is
an annually process and only one ward will be made each year. The
university reserves the right not to award the prize if no book of
sufficient merit is nominated. See guidelines to the awarding of the
