Prof Sreekantha Jonnalagadda

Professor Sreekantha JonnalagaddaProfessor Sreekantha Jonnalagadda has been a Senior Professor of Chemistry since 2003 and Head of the School of Chemistry from January 2010 until December 2012, involving himself with a wide range of administrative activities related to both the Faculty and the College.

Jonnalagadda is a C2 rated scientist and has completed a number of National Research Foundation (NRF)-funded research projects. He is currently working on a three-year project with the South Africa-India Research Initiative. His research interests include reactions dynamics, catalysis and environmental analytical chemistry.

Jonnalagadda has been among the top 30 most productive academics at UKZN in recent years with a sustained publication record in respected journals. In 2009, he was eleventh out of the top 15 productive researchers at the University and No 1 in the School of Chemistry.

With more than 140 research articles in various reputed and rated journals to his credit, he has published 50 research papers and one book chapter by invitation since 2008.

He is regularly invited to act as a reviewer for a number of international journals including the Journal of Physical Chemistry, the Journal of Molecular Catalysis, Catalysis Communications, Catalysis Letters, Talanta and International Journal of Chemical Kinetics.

Jonnalagadda, who acts as the external examiner for number of PhD and MSc dissertations from South Africa and abroad, has attended more than 85 international research conferences in more than 33 countries often as the plenary or invited speaker.

He is a member of the South African Chemical Institute; the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (2005); the NRF-Rating Evaluation panel - Chemistry (2003-2005), and the NRF panel - Evaluation of PhD bursary applications (2007).

Since 2008 he has supervised three PhD and five MSc students.
